Baldur's Gate 3 (2023)

Netherbrain

I closed out my second playthrough of BG3 wherein I wanted to beat Tactician difficulty, perfect my character builds, and try some of the other narrative paths. Gameplay and plot spoilers throughout, I will occasionally refer back to my first playthrough. I last left things having killed most of the Baldurian oligarchy. Except that I let Viconia go and missed out on her sweet, sweet shield. Regret.

But the fire is so delightful

I don't have any fireplace pictures but I assure you we've had a few evenings by the xmas tree and fire.

Weekends and sick days inside have featured jammies, snacks, and art of all mediums:

After some time away, I'm finishing up my tactician-difficulty lizard paladin run on BG3. As mentioned previously, the last few hours of the game are about hopping between archvillains, in any order.

Second lap

I've hit the final act on my second playthroughs of Remnant II and BG3 where the priorities have hidden archetypes (R2) and reclassing (BG3). Mild spoilers throughout.

It'll be a little while before we can finish off Remnant II due to logistics, but the final boss is in mine and J's sights. Having gotten the Dreamcatcher melee weapon, we found our way to Bane to get the Invader archetype.

New unlocks

Some thoughts on my second runs of BG3 and Remnant II. Also a little PUBG twisted metal action.

I'm not sure how many playthroughs have significantly different content, but it's at least two. To be more specific, while the worlds don't change between campaigns, subareas, unlockables, and bosses do.

The Losomn sewer has a key combo puzzle that requires flashing your light at the wall scratchings. I couldn't find the last number but got it on my first of ten guesses.

Final boss

My post backlog has piled up as I've been pulled in various other directions - a deck project, web 1.1, video games. To get my writing momentum going, I'm starting with a lightweight gamespost about vanquishing the Remnant II and BG3 final bosses.

Gameplay spoilers, no plot spoilers.

Since last time, me and J finished off the Beatific Palace and worked through the loot-filled miniboss-onslaught of Root Earth. At last we arrived at Annihilation.

Here's what I'm up to right now

This post is a smattering of stuff I've talked about recently; video and board games, SCOTUS, web stuff. Starting with the last one, a few weeks ago Rob linked me the 'nownownow movement'. According to the search engine blurb (since the site didn't renew its certs):

Exploring

I have a small web post and a SCOTUS post on deck, but for now, games.

Mine and J's first major Remnant II dungeon was the Beatic Palace. We were admiring the Bloodborne aesthetic when we ran into a bit of a confusing puzzle and/or dead end. After some internet searching it occurred to us that we'd come upon a not-uncommon glitch where a critical NPC simply does not spawn. And you can't leave dungeons. You just start over. The whole campaign.

For the eyes

Recreation

A little bit of fresh air and some stale office air.

Derrick organized a Pizza Port trip, Jeff organized an oktoberfest GBES outing, and Dani got some new stickers. Then Mom came down and we hit a pumpkin patch and the zoo.

The board game crew wrapped up a very fun and story-rich Clank Legacy campaign. Through a combination of being in the right place at the right time and always getting back to or near the inn, my character Proposition Joe pulled Employee of the Month honors.

The underworld

In this post: after trying Horizon Chase Turbo, Danielle and I adopt Stray as our new 'daddy game', the squad tries Payday 3, and I play a little more BG3 and FO76.

Danielle's activity requests are swing (30%), park (20%), tablet game (20%), draw/glue (10%), PJ Masks (10%), and daddy game (10%). Having beaten Astro's Playroom and a few 'Slay the Fire' (Slay the Spire) daily climbs, we tried Sonic, Wipeout, and Horizon Chase Turbo.

Rare finds

I think I figured it out: no one in BG3 is sympathetic. Even the eagle - noblest of birds - is ill-tempered, particularly when my party pathfinds over her nest. Don't get me wrong, I like games that aren't all black and white, but since everyone's a zealot in BG3, I'm not sure I can stay neutral for long. (And not indecisive-neutral, more like I-distrust-all-of-you-neutral).

Questing

Baldur's Gate 3 is heavy into story and dialogue. Depending on writing, voice acting, and a player's emotional investment in the overall game, this can be either very captivating or very annoying. I haven't decided where I land on this one. The canon and the central mystery have me not pressing space to skip, the vampires and dialogue volume have me occasionally moving my thumb toward that key.
