Legoland, the ocean, the zoo, and some flag football.
Legoland
A few weeks ago, me and
Jes and
Dani met
Zac and Erin and their girls for our first trip to Legoland. I was happy to see that
so much of the park is geared toward kids just over 3 and/or 36".
Dani's favorite ride was the race cars, though
her first experience didn't go so well. How to explain. So, kids are all wonderful so I'm not the kind of person to say, "my daughter got stuck behind a wiener kid who couldn't find the gas pedal" but in this case my daughter got stuck behind a wiener kid who couldn't find the gas pedal. And so much of the race looked like the pictures above.
This was my failure as a parent having trained her (by example) to follow the car in front of her, even when that car isn't going anywhere.
The little one is a quick study, though.
On her second race she threaded through traffic and hit all the apexes.
Boats are different.
Beach and zoo time
Jon,
Tori, and Jack came down Jon's birthday.
We did all the fun stuff: diving Marine Street, False Idol, carne asada fries, the beach, the zoo, carne asada fries.
The half-day activities left
ample time for R&R, particularly the day that Jon stepped on a stingray.
We unpacked
the Slay the Spire boardgame and managed to get through a couple of floors before we had to pack it up.
Flag football
Part of the
JR birthday weekend was a
League of Sport flag football game. To make it Jon-ish, I designed some Excel-themed jerseys, no sleeves of course. I also found the current model of what used to be called the Black Bomb Nerf-like football, so quarterbacks had a few options.
Meme rules
The
League of Sport has,
from time to time, used
one-off meme rules to spice up the competition. In celebration of the NFL's new kickoff rules, we implemented some creative variations on the standard kick to be drawn from the Hat of Scientific Randomness.
From top-left to bottom-right: The Flutie (drop-kick), The Execution (blindfolded), The Mule (heel kick), The 360 Noscope (spin 360 on the plant foot before kicking), The Volley (midair kick from a toss, any ball), The Conjoined Twins (three-legged kickoff), The Influencer (record a selfie video).
The game
The competition was fierce and so were the gopher holes. In the end,
Jon's team Record Macro defeated Pivot Table after overcoming a two-score deficit.
